Tony Malik Earns Bob James Memorial Scholarship

Cleveland, Ohio - Bowling Green State University men's soccer player Tony Malik was named Tuesday as the male recipient of the Mid-American Conference Bob James Memorial Scholarship award, as voted on by Faculty Athletics Representatives. Kent State's Kate Miller was the women's recipient.
The Bob James Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one male and one female student-athlete who has achieved a minimum grade-point average of 3.5, as well as shown evidence of good character, leadership and citizenship. Student-athletes are nominated during the academic year in which they complete their final season of eligibility. Winners receive a $1,000 post-graduate scholarship. The award is given in honor of Bob James, the MAC's second commissioner.
Malik, who earned a degree in business administration marketing at BGSU, graduated with a 3.79 GPA this past spring. He played every minute of every game in 2000 and 2001 for the Falcons, was a 2001 team captain, and voted unanimously by teammates as the teams' Most Valuable Player in 2001. Malik was named Third Team All-Great Lakes Region, First Team All-Ohio and First Team All-MAC in 2001.
Malik earned a place on the Dean's List seven consecutive semesters and is the recipient of the Marketing Faculty Scholarship, John Davidson Memorial Scholarship and was named the Falcon Club Male Junior Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2001. He earned BGSU's Male Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2002.
A member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee from 2000-2002, he was the group's vice president for the 2001-02 school year. He was also the co-chair of the Falcon Speakers' Bureau in 2000-01 and the chair in 2001-02. Malik plans to pursue a Masters in Business Administration at The Ohio State University.
Malik is the second BGSU student-athlete to receive the award in as many years. In 2001, Jennifer Jarjosa was the woman's recipient of the scholarship.
