The Falcon volleyball squad fell to it's third and final tournament opponent, the University of Texas-Arlington, Saturday night in three games 21-30, 24-30, 18-30. The team will return home from the Colorado/PowerBar Invitational this weekend with a 1-2 tournament record and a 3-5 overall record, but they will have a few individual milestones to note.
BG fell to the tournament host Colorado on Friday (Sept.13) afternoon, defeated the University of Maine on Friday evening and were defeated Saturday (Sept.14) by the University of Texas-Arlington. But amongst the wins and losses, two players were making history.
Senior Kristin Gamby and junior Susie Norris both became members of the 700 Career-Kill Club with their performances in the match against UTA. Gamby slammed down nine kills to put her at 704 career kills and Norris put away 10 to bring her total to 709. The pair combined for over half of the Falcon's 35 total kills.
Junior Laura Twyman and sophomore Taylor Twite each posted five blocks apiece, while Norris led the floor defense with 14 digs. The Falcons outblocked the Mavericks nine to seven in the three-game loss. Sophomore Amber Mareski added to the offense by dishing out 29 assists during the match.
The Falcons return to action this week as they take on IPFW in a mid-week match Tuesday, September 17 at 7 p.m. in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
