BGSU Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at John Piper Intercollegiate

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's golf team finished tied for fifth place at its second annual John Piper Intercollegiate Tournament, held at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio. The Falcons finished with a team score of 890 for three rounds, tying with Marquette University for fifth place.
Eastern Michigan University won the 12-team tournament with a score of 857. Rounding out the top five were Wright State (862), Cleveland State (877) and Dayton (889). John Schones of Wright State University was the individual champion with a score of 210 (72-69-69).
BGSU improved in each of the three rounds, carding a 302 on Monday morning, rebounding with a 297 on Monday afternoon and finishing with a 291 on Tuesday morning.
Sophomore Craig Pickerel had the best tournament of his young career. Pickerel finished with a Falcon-low 215, including a 69 on the final round, both personal bests. Sophomore Austin Chase finished T-11th with a score of 220 (75-73-72). Rounding out BGSU's placers were Christopher Leake (T-39th, 228), Bud Ziglar (T-43rd, 230) and Eric Lauterbach (57th, 244).
The tournament is named after 13-year BGSU coach John Piper. He led the Falcons to three Mid-American Conference Championships in the 1970s.
Bowling Green returns to action this weekend with a three-day tournament hosted by Ball State University (Sept. 20-22).
