Ross-Shaw and assistant coach Tami Summers will offer a hitting clinic, a defensive clinic and pitching clinics for both beginners and advanced pitchers. The hitting clinic will begin at 9:00 a.m. and run until 11:00 a.m., as will the pitching clinic for beginners.
From noon to 2:00 p.m., the Falcons will offer the defensive clinic as well as the advanced pitching clinic.
Registration for all clinics will begin promptly one half-hour prior to the clinic.
BGSU pitching, hitting and defense clinics are designed to provide expert individual instruction. Aspiring young athletes wanting to play fastpitch softball at a higher level will benefit from the knowledge and experience of Division I college coaches and players and are encouraged to attend.
As mentioned, all clinics are held at the BGSU Softball Complex and Warren Steller Stadium, which is located next to the Warren Steller Baseball Field on Mercer Road. The softball field is an excellent facility consisting of a 500-person grandstand, two full-length batting cages and pitching machines.
The pitching clinic will offer a fundamental lecture, personal instruction, demonstration and various station drills. This clinic is designed to teach and develop proper pitching mechanics. Summers, one of the top pitchers in Mid-American Conference history, will be the featured speaker. Summers, as Tami Johnston, was a three-time all-conference hurler for Toledo, and was inducted into that school's athletic Hall of Fame.
The hitting clinics will offer a breakdown of hitting mechanics and hitting drills designed to increase offensive consistency and power. The hitting lecture will feature Ross-Shaw, one of the top hitters in MAC history. Ross-Shaw, like Summers, was a three-time All-MAC pick at UT, and was an All-American. She also was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame.
The objective of the defensive clinic will be to increase the player's game knowledge while concentrating on the development of specific position play. All positions will be covered.
NOTE: Clinic participants must bring all necessary equipment, if applicable (I.e., glove, bat cleats and catcher's equipment)
