BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball squad opened the 2002 season with a win over Oakland University in three straight games Tuesday night. The Falcons defeated the Golden Grizzlies 30-23, 30-12, 30-15.
The BGSU attack was led by junior Susie Norris, redshirt junior Laura Twyman and redshirt sophomore Bridget Protas. Left-side hitter Norris finished the evening with 12 kills on 20 attempts for a .450 hitting percentage. Twyman paced the Falcon offense from the right-side with an identical 12 kills on 18 attempts for a .556 average. Protas attacked for a career-best 11 kills on 22 attempts for a .227 average. Lone senior Kristin Gamby compiled 8 kills and two blocks including one block solo.
All 12 Falcons saw action in the Falcons first victory of the season.
BG is on the road this weekend at the Pittsburgh Invitational and will face Indiana State on Friday (Sept.6) and both Duke and Pittsburgh on Saturday (Sept. 7). The Falcons will compete on the road for a total of 13 matches before returning home to face MAC foe Toledo on October 2.
