Columbus, Ohio - Bowling Green dropped a 6-1 Central Collegiate Hockey Association game at Value City Arena to #7-ranked Ohio State on Friday night. The Buckeyes scored three unanswered goals in the third period for win.
OSU scored twice in the first period off goals by Daymen Bencharski (7:33) and Ryan Kesler (9:44) for an early 2-0 lead, thanks to a 18-6 shot advantage in the first 20 minutes.
The Falcons responded, though, early in the second period when sophomore Alex Rogosheske shot stick-side on OSU goalie Dave Caruso off of a rebound to cut BGSU's deficit to 2-1. The 4-on-3 Falcon power-play goal was Rogosheske's second goal of the season and was assisted by Mark Wires and Kevin Bieksa. OSU's Scott May scored a power-play goal of his own, OSU's first in the series, at 8:02 of the second period, building the home team's lead back to two goals, 3-1.
OSU's 3-1 lead stayed put until JB Bittner netted his fourth goal of the season at 1:53 of the third period to move the Buckeyes ahead, 4-1. Kesler (8:26) and R.J. Umberger (PPG, 14:00) in the third period gave OSU the 6-1 win.
The Buckeyes held a 53-26 shot advantage on the night. BGSU goalie Tyler Masters recorded 47 saves in 60 minutes of action. Caruso had 25 saves for the Buckeyes.
OSU was 2-for-4 on the power play while BGSU was 1-for-5. OSU had nine penalties and the Falcons had eight. BGSU was without the services of freshmen forwards Brett Pilkington and Brandon Piersol due to injury.
BGSU dropped to 5-15-2 overall and 3-12-2 in league action. The Falcons play their final non-conference contest of the season on Tuesday night at the famous Joe Louis Arena in Detroit against Wayne State University. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
