Falcons Fall On Career Night For Norris

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball squad dropped a four-set match to Central Michigan (28-30, 28-30, 30-21, 22-30) Friday night at Anderson Arena. Despite the loss, the Falcons did have one thing to celebrate. With a dig in the middle of game one, senior Susie Norris registered dig number 1,345, to become the all-time leader at BGSU in digs for a career.
With the Falcons leading 23-18 in game one with the ball in Central Michigan's court, an attack by Emily Lovejoy, hit in the direction of Norris, allowed her to register dig number 1,345. Holli Costein compiled 1,344 digs from 1989-1992, a mark that stood for 11 years.
In game one both teams exchanged leads, and were knotted at 9-9. BGSU raced out to a five point lead with a 12-7 run to take the lead at 21-16. With the Brown & Orange leading 27-24 Central Michigan was forced to call a timeout. The Chips finished game one with a 6-1 run to capture game one, 30-28.
Game two was back-and-forth just like game one, with neither team able to take more then a two point lead until CMU took the lead at 24-21, forcing a BGSU timeout. The Falcons responded with a 3-0 run to tie the score at 24, and eventually taking a 26-25 lead. The Chippewas finished game two with a 5-2 run to win game two, 30-28.
BGSU came out of the locker room looking to get back into the match. Head coach Denise Van De Walle mixed up the lineup, inserting junior Bridget Protas and sophomore Emily Manser. Manser registered three kills and six digs in game three alone, and Protas chipped in with two kills and service ace. The Falcons got out to a commanding 10-4 lead, allowing CMU to get no closer then 17-9. BGSU won game three 30-21.
Game four saw the scored tied at 16-16 after a BGSU attack error. CMU took a 24-17 lead with an 8-1 run, running away with game four 30-22. For the game CMU hit .303 and held BGSU to a .171 hitting percentage.
For the match Norris registered a double-double with 16 kills and 13 digs, to go along with a .294 hitting percentage.
Junior Taylor Twite had a team-leading 18 kills, as well as led the team with 20.5 registered points.
The Falcons will return o Anderson Arena tomorrow night (Oct. 11) to face off with the Flashes of Kent State. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
