Mason, Ohio - The Bowling Green men's golf team finished third at the Xavier Provident Invitational, played Monday and Tuesday at Grizzly Course in Mason, Ohio. The Falcons ended the rain-shortened tournament with a two-round, school-record score of 563. In the first round, BGSU set a new school record and tied the Xavier Provident Invitational record with a score of 276.
The 563 beats the old 36-hole record by 26 strokes set in 1991 (589). The old 18-hole school record was 283 set in 2000 and 2001.
Leading the way for the Falcons was sophomore Heath Ziglar who shot a school record-tying 136, including a personal-best 67 in the first round. He added a 69 in the second round to finish six-under par. Ziglar's 136 ties him with John Miller (1978) and Brett Fulford (1992) for the 36 hole school record.
Also helping the Falcon cause was redshirt-junior Craig Pickerel who finished tied for 19th (142), sophomore Chris Leake who placed tied for 32nd (144), and senior Adam Balls and redshirt-sophomore Tommy Lopez who both placed tied for 55th (148).
Indiana won the 20-team tournament with a score of 560, followed by Marquette with 561.
The Falcons have completed their fall schedule and will next play February 23-24 when they participate in the Cleveland State Spring Kick-Off Classic, held in Charleston, S.C., to begin the spring season.
