BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Kyle Jamieson has been named to the softball staff at Bowling Green State University, BGSU head softball coach Leigh Ross-Shaw has announced. Jamieson already has begun his duties as an instructor/softball assistant.
"I am proud and thankful to be part of such a great program," said Jamieson. "I look forward to adding to the success of the BGSU program, and to the Falcons having another successful season in 2004."
A native of Stittsville, Ontario, Jamieson is no stranger to the Mid-American Conference. He was an assistant at the University of Toledo under then-head coach Michelle Fagnant in the 2000 season, helping the Rockets lower the team earned-run average by nearly a full run from the previous year.
"I am very pleased with the addition of Kyle to our coaching staff," said Ross-Shaw. "He is one of the best pitching coaches in college coaching now. His experience and ability to instruct will make our pitching staff one of the strongest in the MAC. All the parts are in place for a MAC championship run."
Jamieson's playing and coaching background has taken him all around the world. He was the pitching coach for the Danish Men's National Team during 2001. His collegiate coaching experience includes spending the 2000 season as pitching coach for the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, in addition to his time at UT.
Jamieson has an extensive playing background as well. He helped pitch the Canadian National Team to a world championship in New Zealand in 1993 and was a member of the Danish National Fastpitch Championship club team in 2001.
Earlier in 2003, Jamieson was a member of the Kemptville Thunder team that won a silver medal at the ISCII World Championships.
Jamieson has earned bachelor's degrees from Brock University in 1997 and Nipissing University in 1998. He was named the Male Gold Card Athlete of the Year by Softball Ontario in 1993, and also was named one of Ontario's Elite Athletes by that organization. The next year, he was inducted into the Goulbourn Township Sports Wall of Fame.
The Falcons finished the 2003 season with an overall record of 26-26-1, and BGSU posted a MAC ledger of 15-9 to finish fourth in the West Division and fifth overall. BGSU opens the 2004 season on Feb. 27-29 at the Mercer University Classic.
