The Bowling Green State University football team is in the midst of preparations for the Motor City Bowl. The Falcons will take on Northwestern University of the Big Ten Conference at Detroit's Ford Field on Dec. 26, in a 5:00 p.m. start. On Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 23), BGSU coach Gregg Brandon and players met with the media...
Coach Gregg Brandon Opening Statement:
"We're real excited to be here. It has been a while for Bowling Green, and this team deserves this opportunity to represent our school and the MAC Conference. We will come ready to play, and pull out all the stops to win this game."
Talking about the Motor City Bowl:
"This is a nice spot for us to be. I think the Motor City Bowl is an excellent bowl for the MAC. It is my intention to be in this game year in and year out. I just have to find 60 players that want to be here with me. It will be a team goal to make a bowl game every year."
Representing the MAC as well as the BGSU Program:
"I think we do carry the banner for the league, because the league does get disrespected. The fact that we are playing a Big Ten opponent just adds that much more fuel."
Talking about coming back to the city of Detroit:
Jovon Burkes- "One of my goals was to play back here in Detroit. I wanted to win a Motor City Bowl Championship. We told ourselves that in January that this was one of our goals. Ever since then we have been working hard to achieve that goal."
Talking about facing Northwestern back in 2001:
Josh Harris- "Northwestern is a completely different team, but so is this Bowling Green team. Faces come and faces go every year, and you can't depend on a good performance from two years ago to get you through a game. I am sure Northwestern is going to remember that game, and they are going to try to prevent that from happening again."
Do you think you have to prove anything to the Big Ten?
Josh Harris- "No, I think I'm doing proving things. I am just playing football now. All I have to do is go out and take care of my assignments and let my teammates take care of theirs. That normally leads to success."
