HONOLULU (AP) - Jernavis Draughn had his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds as American U. rallied to defeat Bowling Green 73-64 in a consolation round match Monday at the Rainbow Classic. BGSU will play Lamar for seventh place in the event, Tuesday at 4 p.m., Eastern time.
"I thought we came out and played in a typical Hawaii consolation round game the first half," said BGSU coach Dan Dakich. "The second half we competed as hard and as well as we competed all year. We turned an 11-point deficit into a five- point lead. We weren't able to finish and give them credit. They made the shots they needed to make when they needed to make them. "
Andre Ingram added 19 points while Raimondas Petrauskas scored 13 points as the Eagles (4-7) snapped a three-game losing streak. Ron Lewis scored a game high 29 points and John Reimold had 16 for Bowling Green (3-7).
Steven Wright's layup that gave Bowling Green a 59-54 lead with less than 10 minutes remaining before American U. took control of the game by scoring 10 unanswered points while holding the Falcons to just one field goal and two free throws for the rest of the game.
Down 39-28 at halftime, Reimold and Lewis led the Falcons' second-half rally. Reimold hit two 3-pointers to bring the Falcons within four at 49-45 with 14:27 remaining and Lewis three-point play gave the Falcons a 52-49 lead, its first lead since the game's opening minutes.
"We missed shots against their zone and had far too many turnovers after scoring probably the first 5 times weplayed against the zone and then we started throwing the ball away with lack of a patience," added Dakich. "That was the ball game."
