TOLEDO, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team got straight-set wins at every singles flight en route to a 7-0 victory over Wright State University Friday night (Feb. 21). The non-conference dual match was held at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club in Toledo.
With the win, the Falcons of head coach Penny Dean improve to 3-4 in dual play this season. Only one of BGSU's six singles competitors lost more than three games.
Sophomore Susie Schoenberger captured her top-flight singles match with a 6-3, 6-0 win over WSU's Marie Craig. Senior Alyson Gabel dropped only two total games in her win at the second flight, while junior Gaby Coello was a victor at the third level.
At the remaining three flights, the Falcons lost a total of just three games. Sophomore Cameron Benjamin did not lose a single game in her fourth-flight win, while freshman Heidi Romer downed her Raider opponent by identical 6-1 scores. Sophomore Lindsey Mix lost only a single game at the sixth flight.
In doubles, Schoenberger teamed with junior Lisa Maloney for a win at the top flight, while Benjamin and junior Jessica Johnson were winners at the second level. The Falcons got a shutout from freshman Andrea Meister and sophomore Laura Kokinda at the third level.
BGSU returns to action Saturday (Feb. 22), taking on Butler in a 1:00 p.m. match at Shadow Valley.
