Kent State Gets Past Falcons, 73-67

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (AP) - Antonio Gates scored 26 points as Kent State held off a late threat by Bowling Green 73-67 Wednesday night.
The Golden Flashes (17-2 overall, 10-1 Mid-American Conference) led for nearly the entire game and were ahead 55-44 midway through the second half. But the Falcons (10-9, 6-5) cut into the lead with a 10-2 run that made it 57-54 at the 7:24 mark and reduced the margin to 60-59 with 5:12 to play.
Kent State then scored the next six points as John Edwards and Matt Jakeway each made two free throws and Gates hit a layup with 2:22 remaining, making it 66-59.
Gates scored the Flashes' final nine points, making two field goals and five straight free throws.
Jakeway added 15 points and Anthony Wilkins 11 for Kent State.
Bowling Green's John Reimold had 18 points and 10 rebounds. Kevin Netter scored 17. Cory Ryan 14 and Ron Lewis nine, with 12 rebounds.
Kent State took a 4-2 lead with 16:51 left in the first half and never trailed again. The Flashes led 39-27 at halftime as they made 15-of-28 field goal tries for 53.6 percent while holding Bowling Green to 8-for-28 for 28.6 percent.
