Eagles Snap Falcon Winning Streak, 6-1

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team saw a three-match winning streak come to an end, as Eastern Michigan University posted a 6-1 victory over the Falcons Saturday afternoon (March 1). The Mid-American Conference match was held at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
With the victory, the Eagles remain undefeated in dual-match play this season, at 5-0 overall and 2-0 in MAC action. The Falcons drop to 5-5 and 1-1, respectively.
Eastern took the early lead, winning the doubles point by taking the top-two matches. BGSU's lone win came at the third flight, as the team of senior Alyson Gabel and junior Gaby Coello gutted out a 9-7 victory over EMU's Amalia Lincaru and Julie-Anne Ryan.
In singles action, the visitors got convincing wins from a pair of seniors, Lisa D'Amelio and Rebecca Hawkins, at flights one and two, respectively.
The Eagles' Ying Kansuthi won a second-set tiebreaker to defeat junior Lisa Maloney at the third flight, while Lincaru downed Coello at flight number four.
Sophomore Cameron Benjamin rallied after dropping the first set to Kendra Clark, taking the second set. But, Clark bounced back for the fifth-flight win.
BGSU's lone singles win among the six scored flights came from Heidi Romer. The freshman posted a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Marijana Adzic to gain the Falcons' only point of the match.
The Falcons are idle for two weeks before heading to Bloomington, Ind., for a pair of non-conference dual matches on Saturday, March 15. On that date, the Brown and Orange will face host Indiana University in the morning, before meeting Indiana State University in a neutral-site match that afternoon. BGSU's next home match comes the following Saturday, March 22, against Xavier.
