Falcons Down ISU, 4-3, To Top Last Year's Win Total

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team posted victories at the bottom four singles flights for a 4-3 win over Indiana State University Saturday afternoon (March 15). The neutral-site match was held in Bloomington, Ind.
The victory gives the Falcons a 6-6 dual-match record. BGSU has topped the win total for all of last season, having gone 5-18 in 2001-02. The Sycamores drop to 5-6 on the year.
ISU captured the doubles point with wins at flights one and two. The Falcons picked up the win at the third doubles flight, as the team of senior Alyson Gabel and junior Gaby Coello posted an 8-3 triumph over their Sycamore foes.
In singles, Coello had a straight-sets win over ISU's Magda Narczewska at the third flight, while sophomore Cameron Benjamin and freshman Heidi Romer also won in straight sets at flights four and five, respectively. Romer lost a total of only two games in her win over Lisa Herndon.
Sophomore Laura Kokinda battled ISU's Laura Whitney in a three-set match, but it was Kokinda who came out on top. She won both the first and third sets by scores of 6-2.
Sophomore Susie Schoenberger suffered a loss to Carolina Salinas at the top flight, while Gabel lost a three-set battle at the second singles level.
The Falcons return home for a Saturday (March 22) match vs. Xavier. That contest, scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. at BGSU's Keefe Courts, is the Falcons' final non-conference dual match of the season. BG then goes on the road for four consecutive MAC matches before returning home for the final three contests of the regular season.
