ROCKFORD, Ill. - Northern Illinois University took five of the six singles flights to clinch a 6-1 victory over the Bowling Green State University women's tennis team Friday afternoon (March 28). The Mid-American Conference dual match was held at the Clock Tower Inn and Resort in Rockford, Ill.
NIU improves to 9-3 overall and a perfect 3-0 in MAC action, while the Falcons are now 6-8 and 1-2, respectively. The Huskies have won five consecutive matches.
The Huskies swept the doubles point to open the match, and NIU won each of the top-five singles contests in straight sets. The Falcons' lone point came courtesy of freshman Heidi Romer at the sixth singles flight. Romer won the first set over the Huskies' Kristi McIntyre in a tiebreaker, then got the win with a 6-2 result in the second set.
The Falcons return to action Saturday afternoon (March 29), heading to Kalamazoo for a match with MAC power Western Michigan University.
