BGSU Falls at #15 Notre Dame, 7-2

South Bend, Ind. - Bowling Green gave up five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning at #15-ranked Notre Dame, suffering a 7-2 loss in South Bend on Thursday night. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Falcons while Notre Dame extended its current winning streak to 14 games.
The Fighting Irish went ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning. BGSU tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the third inning when sophomore Kevin Longstreth scored from third base on an errant throw by the Fighting Irish catcher into center field. Longstreth reached base on a single to center, moved to second on a bunt sacrifice by Tyler Wasserman, and reached third on a single by Spencer Schmitz.
BGSU then took the lead in the fourth inning when freshman Nolan Reimold led off the inning with a double to center field, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on another wild pitch, for a 2-1 Falcon lead. ND knotted the score again in the bottom of the fourth inning, 2-2, on a Cody Rizzo solo home run off of Tyler Johnson.
BGSU used seven different pitchers in the seven-inning contest. The Falcon pitching staff combined to give up six earned runs, walk three, and struck out two.
Notre Dame had eight hits compared to BGSU's four. Two of the four hits were doubles off the bats of senior Kelly Hunt and Reimold. Hunt's double extended his hitting streak to 12 games.
Sophomore Burke Badenhop (1-3) surrendered three runs in the sixth inning to suffer the loss. Notre Dame's J.P. Gagne (3-3) earned the win.
BGSU drops to 8-12 overall while Notre Dame improved to 23-6. The Falcons return to Mid-American Conference action this weekend when they travel to Central Michigan University for a two-game series, Saturday-Sunday (April 12-13). Saturday's game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start while Sunday's start is scheduled for 1 p.m.
