BGSU Rallies, But Falls to Central Michigan, 10-7

Mt. Pleasant, Mich. - Bowling Green fought back from a four-run deficit, and retook the lead, before host Central Michigan plated five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to post a 10-7 victory over the Falcons on Saturday afternoon in Mt. Pleasant, Mich.
BGSU trailed 5-1 after the third inning, with its one run coming on David Barkholz' leadoff home run on the second pitch of the game. The next inning the Falcons would score was in the sixth inning when it tallied six runs to take a 7-5 lead.
Two of the runs in the inning came on a two-run blast by catcher Kevin Longstreth over the left-field wall. The hits kept coming for the Falcons with a two-run double by Kelly Hunt to center field. It was the sixth-straight game that Hunt doubled and extended his hitting streak to 13 games, tying a career-high. Jeff Warnock and Nolan Reimold also knocked in runs with hits.
However, the Chippewas scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving them the 10-7 verdict.
BGSU starting pitcher Kyle Knoblauch lasted seven innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits, no walks and one strikeout. Tyler Saneholtz (one run) and Neil Schmitz (two runs) pitched in relief. Saneholtz suffered the loss and fell to 2-2.
Barkholz finished the day 3-for-4 with two runs scored, one double and one homer. The round-tripper was Barkholz' team-leading fifth of the season. BGSU held a 11-10 advantage in hits while stranding 10 runners to CMU's one.
BGSU drops to 8-13 overall and 3-4 in the Mid-American Conference. CMU improved to 10-14 overall and 2-3 in the MAC.
