BGSU Splits Doubleheader vs. Marshall

Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green split a doubleheader with Marshall on Saturday at Warren Steller Field, winning game one, 10-5, and dropping the second game, 3-2. The two runs in game two were both driven in by Kelly Hunt, making him the all-time career leader at BGSU with 179 runs-batted-in.
In game one, the Falcons scored in the first three innings to build a 6-3 lead. In the first inning, Jimmy Lipari led off with a triple down the right-field line and was brought home in the next at-bat when David Barkholz singled to left field. Nolan Reimold walked and one out later both runners moved up on a stolen base. Barkholz then scored from third base when Kevin Longstreth popped out to the pitcher, who overthrew the third baseman, which allowed Barkholz to come home and give BGSU a 2-0 lead after one inning.
The Falcons plated three runs in the second inning to build a 5-0 lead. First, Bobby Majer hit a two-out double, then he scored on a throwing error by the third baseman after Lipari hit an infield single to the hot corner. Lipari moved to second base on the play and was driven home by Barkholz who had singled to center field. Barkholz later scored thanks to Reimold.
Marshall plated three runs in the top of the third inning to cut to within two, 5-3, of the Falcons before Tyler Wasserman drove home Jeff Warnock in the bottom-half of the third inning for a 6-3 advantage.
The Thundering Herd cut to within one, 6-5, with a run in both the fifth and sixth innings before the Falcons put the game away with four runs in the bottom of the sixth frame. Reimold had an RBI single, Barkholz scored on a fielding error by the pitcher, and Wasserman drove in two with a single down the right-field line in the inning.
Lefty Keith Laughlin picked up his fifth win of the year (5-1) and stayed undefeated in the MAC, improving to 4-0. Laughlin lasted four and two-third innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Tyler Johnson and Neil Schmitz each pitched in relief. Schmitz entered in the top of the fifth inning with a two-run lead and picked up his third save of the year.
BGSU had 11 hits to Marshall's eight while both teams stranded seven runners. The Herd committed four errors to BGSU's none.
Barkholz finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored. Wasserman drove in three by going 2-for-4.
