Cleveland, Ohio - Bowling Green State University first baseman Kelly Hunt was named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week on Tuesday by the league offices for the week of May 12-18. It was the first time he was named the league's player of the week this season.
Hunt had eight of his 11 hits last week go for extra bases, including seven doubles, en route to hitting .500 on the week in five games (11-for-22). The one home run he had at Detroit-Mercy tied him with former Falcon Andy Tracy for the BGSU career record (45). After opening 4-for-6 against UDM (two doubles, home run), the senior recorded five doubles in seven hits against Toledo in his final series as a Falcon.
The Toledo Central Catholic graduate finished the week with 10 RBI, a .955 slugging pct. and a .543 on-base pct. In his final collegiate game at Fifth Third Field, Hunt drove in four runs on two doubles, which was part of a 2-for-5 day. He was successful in all 47 chances at first base on the week.
Hunt finished the season with a .439 batting average, sixth-best in the nation, and was 11th nationally with 1.36 RBI per game. He hit safely in 39 of 45 games played this season.
The 6-foot-5, 240 pounder was named MAC Player of the Week three times last season en route to being named the league's Player of the Year.
