CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference office has authorized the release of the MAC Academic Honor Roll for the 2002-03 academic year, and four members of the Bowling Green State University men's soccer team were among those honored. The BGSU athletic department had a total of 122 student-athletes selected.
To be eligible, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher. True freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible, as a student-athlete must have attended the institution for an entire year to qualify for the award.
For the men's soccer Falcons, the four honorees include senior Matt Leardini, redshirt junior Matt Martinka and juniors David DeGraff and Scott Tilford. (Note: each player's year of eligibility reflects the 2002-03 academic year).
The 2002 Falcons of head coach Mel Mahler shared the MAC regular-season championship and advanced all the way to the championship match of the MAC Tournament. Mahler welcomes back 14 letterwinners, including nine starters, from that squad. The Falcons begin the 2003 regular season on Aug. 30, with a home contest vs. Cincinnati at Cochrane Field.
BGSU's list of honorees follows. The cumulative GPA figures for each student-athlete are through the fall, 2002, semester, as the nominations were made before the conclusion of the spring, 2003, semester.
