April 12, 2026 | Baseball
11 Different Falcons Score As BGSU, CMU Combine For 34 Runs
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Central Michigan added the first three runs of the day in the second inning for a 3-0 lead. CMU pushed the score to 4-0 in the third with another tally.
- In the bottom of the third, Griffin Scheiderer reached second on a grounder that slipped under the glove of Central Michigan's first baseman. On the next pitch, Carter Mottice traded places with Scheiderer with an RBI double to left center for a 4-1 score.
- Central Michigan responded in the fourth with a home run for a 5-1 advantage.
- The back-and-forth continued in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run from Anthony Mitta, cutting the deficit down to 5-2.
- The Chippewas again answered, this time scoring two in the top of the fifth for a 7-2 score.
- Pauly Mancino led off the bottom of the fifth with a walk before a Scheiderer single through the right side put runners at the corners. Mottice laced a liner up the middle, ricocheting off second base in the process, for a double to score Mancino.
- The rally continued with a sacrifice fly from Lance Vickers to bring home Scheiderer followed by a two-run blast from Andrew DiLodovico to cut the score down to 7-6.
- In the next at-bat, Brayden Curlis was hit by a pitch, prompting a pitching change for CMU. An infield single by TJ Takats put two on for BGSU. Zack Horky capitalized with a single up the middle to score Curlis. Mancino kept it going by executing a hit and run through the right side of the infield, scoring Takats for an 8-7 lead after five.
- Central Michigan responded with one in the top of the sixth to tie it 8-8.
- Vickers drew a walk in the bottom of the sixth to set up an RBI triple off the left center wall by Curlis to score Vickers for a 9-8 lead.
- Horky added to the BGSU lead in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run to left for a 10-8 score.
- Central Michigan scored eight in the eighth inning and three in the ninth for a 21-10 lead.
- Jaxon Brown led off the bottom of the ninth with a double into the left center gap. Cooper McKenzie joined him on the bases, drawing a walk, to set up a three-run home run by Mancino for the eventual 21-13 final.
