CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference office has authorized the release of the MAC Academic Honor Roll for the 2002-03 academic year, and eight members of the Bowling Green State University softball team were among those honored. The BGSU athletic department had a total of 122 student-athletes selected.
To be eligible, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher. True freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible, as a student-athlete must have attended the institution for an entire year to qualify for the award.
For the softball Falcons, the eight honorees include senior Crystal Wilson, redshirt junior Liz Tuza, juniors Candace Fenton and Jody Johnson, redshirt sophomore Marla Murphy and sophomores Kristen Anderson, Sara Edwards and Stephanie Finkel. (Note: each player's year of eligibility reflects the 2002-03 academic year).
The Falcons finished the 2003 season with an overall record of 26-26-1. Fifth-year head coach Leigh Ross-Shaw's team posted a MAC ledger of 15-9 to finish fourth in the West Division and fifth overall. The Brown and Orange qualified for the six-team MAC Tournament for the fifth time in six seasons.
BGSU's list of honorees follows. The cumulative GPA figures for each student-athlete are through the fall, 2002, semester, as the nominations were made before the conclusion of the spring, 2003, semester.
