Grand Valley State Wins Falcon Fall Invitational

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Grand Valley State University women's golf team captured the 2003 Falcon Fall Invitational title on Sunday at Forrest Creason Golf Course on the campus of Bowling Green State University. The Lakers finished with a 36-hole score 619 (312, 307), tied with the University of Toledo (310, 309). However, GVSU won via a tiebreaker which counted the fifth player's score for the Lakers.
Individually, Oakland University's Mara Mazzoni captured the top medal thanks to a scorecard playoff with GVSU's Melissa Sneller. Both finished the 36-hole tournament with a score of 147.
The host Falcons finished third with a team score of 630 (311, 319). Senior Jenny Schnipke finished third by carding a score of 148 (73, 75). Freshman Kari Liggett, playing in just her second collegiate tournament, placed tied for 13th with a score of 159 (81, 78). Other Falcon golfers placing in the top-30 were sophomore Amanda Schroeder (T-20th, 164), senior Julie Wise (T-20th, 164), and senior Kari Evans (T-27th, 167).
Three other BGSU golfers were competing individually, including Ashley Hartman (T-38th, 171), Karen Binzel (T-38th, 171), and Melissa Reeder (45th, 175).
BGSU takes to the road next weekend when it travels to Indianapolis, Ind., for a tournament hosted by Butler University (Sept. 22-23).
