BGSU Drops Tough One at UNLV, 3-2, In Double Overtime

Las Vegas, Nev. - UNLV's leading scorer netted his second goal of the game at 104:58 in the second overtime to defeat the Bowling Green soccer team on Sunday afternoon at the UNLV Classic. Alex Hernandez netted a shorthanded goal to give the host Runnin' Rebels a 3-2 victory over the Falcons.
BGSU got on the board first in the 35th minute with a goal from sophomore Paul Seip, his second of the season, off of a rebounded save by UNLV keeper Peter Clitheroe. Senior Paul Dhaliwal assisted on the score (34:56).
The Falcons held an advantage in shots (9-3) and corner kicks (3-1) in the first 45 minutes.
The Rebels answered in the second half with Hernandez' first goal of the game at 52:26 to knot the game, 1-1. UNLV then pulled ahead shortly after with a goal from Victor Arbelaez at 63:05 for a 2-1 lead.
Sophomore-transfer Omari aldridge put the game back into a deadlock with his team-leading third goal of the season for the Falcons at 81:47. Seip assisted with his third helper of the year.
The game then went to overtime with neither team scoring in the first overtime before Hernandez' game-winner in the 105th minute.
BGSU held a 24-14 shot advantage with Clitheroe posting eight saves and BGSU's David DeGraff stopping six shots-on-goal. The Falcons also held a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks for the game.
BGSU drops to 2-2-2 overall while UNLV improves to 3-5. The Falcons begin Mid-American Conference action next Friday, Sept. 26, on the road against nationally-ranked Akron. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Lee Jackson Field.
