Buckeyes Down Falcons In Three

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball squad dropped a three set match to the Ohio State University (26-30, 25-30 and 27-30) at St. John's Arena Saturday night. The Falcons were paced by senior Samantha Rennau and her 11 kills.
In game one Bowling Green raced out to an early 8-4 lead before Ohio State knotted the score at 10-10 with a 6-2 run. The teams exchanged leads until the game was tied at 17 before the Buckeyes ran off a 4-0 run on the back of three Stacey Gordon kills. The Brown & Orange got as close as 25-23 before OSU ended game one with a 5-2 run, claiming the first set victory, 30-26.
In game two, neither team was able to take more then a two-point advantage until the Buckeyes took a 20-17 lead. OSU then took a commanding 28-22 lead, until BGSU mounted a 3-0 run to get within 28-25, with a kill by Emily Manser and a solo block by Amber Mareski. Coming out of a timeout, OSU grabbed the next two points to capture game two, 30-25.
Bowling Green got out to an early 9-7 lead to start game three with several kills by juniors Melissa Mohr and Taylor Twite. Several points later, a kill by Rennau gave the Falcons their largest lead at 18-15. The Buckeyes answered with a 9-4 run to claim a 24-22 lead, a lead they would not relinquish. OSU won game three 30-27.
Up next, the Falcons welcome IPFW to Anderson Arena on Friday, September 26, before opening the MAC season at home versus Western Michigan the following night. Both matches are set to begin at 7:00 p.m.

FALCONS CLUTCH DOWN THE STREATCH
With the five set win over Valparaiso University on Wednesday night, the Falcons improved to 4-0 on the year in matches that go the distance. The Brown & Orange have also defeated Portland, Bradley and Iowa State in five sets.
VAN DE WALLE REACHES MILESTONE
Downing Oakland on Tuesday night gave BGSU its seventh win of the season, but it also gave head coach Denise Van De Walle her 375th win of her career. Her overall record is 376-254, all at BGSU. She is the winningest coach in Mid-American Conference history.
BGSU FRESHMAN DIGS DEFENSE Freshman Chrissy Gothke continues to shine on defense for the Brown & Orange. On the season Gothke is averaging 3.96 digs per game and in her last six matches she is averaging 4.95 digs per game.
