Falcons Fall To IPFW In Four

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team dropped a four-set match to IPFW on Friday night (30-23, 25-30, 25-30, 25-30) at Anderson Arena. Senior Samantha Rennau continued her hot play with her fourth double-double of the season, posting 18 kills and 12 digs.
The Falcons controlled game one from the onset with a 6-2 run to open the match, never surrendering the lead. The Mastodons got as close as 7-6, but the Brown & Orange put together another 6-2 run to lead 13-8. IPFW rallied to trail by only two, 24-22, before a kill by senior Susie Norris and back-to-back aces by junior Melissa Mohr put the match out of reach. The Falcons claimed game one, 30-23.
BGSU began game two like game one ended. They opened with an 8-4 run, and lead 13-10, with several kills by Mohr and Rennau. Out of nowhere IPFW mounted a 12-3 run, to take a commanding 22-16 lead. The Falcons got as close as 27-23, before Fabiana Souza put away the final point of the set. IPFW won game two, 30-25.
The Falcons came out flat to start game three, and before they knew it they trailed 10-3. With three straight kills by Rennau, Bowling Green got within 15-11, before IPFW threw a 6-3 run on the board, pulling away with a 30-25 win. For the set the Falcons hit only .196, while IPFW hit .255.
BGSU came out determined in game four, starting off strong with a 5-2 run, and lead 14-12 after another Rennau kill. With the Falcons leading 20-17, IPFW closed out the match with a 13-5 run, dropping the Falcons record to 8-5. IPFW now stands at 9-6.
For the match, Rennau posted her fourth double-double of the season (third in her last five matches) with 18 kills and 12 digs. She also had a .278 hitting percentage.
Senior Sara Sikorski had her first double-double of the season with 29 assists to go along with 11 digs.
Mohr chipped in with 11 kills and a .321 hitting percentage. She also had a team leading four block-assists.
Up next for the Falcons is the Mid-American Conference opener with Western Michigan tomorrow night at Anderson Arena. The match is set for 7:00 p.m.
