Bowling Green, Ohio - A first career goal, a second shutout and an offense that threatened at will the entire match all helped Bowling Green record its first victory of the 2003 season with a 3-0 decision over visiting Wisconsin-Green Bay.
BGSU held a 15-5 shot advantage in the 90 minutes over the Phoenix of UWGB and controlled the tempo of the game throughout. The Falcons turned up the heat on the Phoenix in the second half with 10 shot attempts and two goals.
The first goal of the game, and the 2003 season, for BGSU came off the foot of Paul Dhaliwal at 21:33. The senior took a pass from Eric Duda at midfield and dribbled all the way into the top-left corner of the box. After faking one UWGB defender, he calmly turned and fired to the right-side of the net past goalkeeper Pat Czuprynski for a 1-0 Falcon lead.
Bowling Green held a 5-1 shot advantage in the first 45 minutes. The score stayed 1-0 until sophomore-transfer Omari aldridge netted his first goal in the Brown and Orange at 47:46. Freshman Dustin Snyder's corner kick glanced off the head of a diving P.J. Behan in the middle of the box, and dribbled to Aldridge on the far right side. Aldridge shot past Czuprynski for a 2-0 Falcon lead.
Dhaliwal put the game out of reach at 75:30 with his second goal of the match. Again, the British Columbia native dribbled from outside of the box and drilled a shot past the diving Czuprynski. Assists went to Duda and junior-transfer Andrew Knoll. Dhaliwal led BGSU last season with four goals, including two vs. Buffalo (Sept. 29).
While the Falcon offense was lighting up the scoreboard, senior David DeGraff and the BGSU defense was holding the Phoenix scoreless. DeGraff had four saves for his second consecutive shutout, his 15th career shutout, and helped run his shutout streak to 200:00 minutes in two games.
Dhaliwal and Aldridge each had three shots on goal while Snyder had two. Czuprynski finished with seven saves and three goals allowed.
BGSU improved to 1-0-1 on the young season while UWGB dropped to 0-2-0. The Falcons will take to the road for the next three weeks, playing in the Stetson Classic in Deland, Fla. (Sept. 12 and 14) and the UNLV Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. (Sept. 19 and 21).
