Falcons Host BGSU Quadrangular This Weekend

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University track squad opens the 2004 indoor season this weekend, when they welcome Miami, Ohio, Western Michigan and Detroit-Mercy to the Perry Field House this Saturday afternoon (Jan. 17). The field events will begin at 11:30 a.m. while the track events start at noon.
SEASON PREVIEW
Sprints & Hurdles
Senior Alicia Taylor (Cleveland Heights) leads this group coming off a MAC runner-up placing this past spring and NCAA regional qualifying performance as well. She is joined by returnees Amber Walker (Detroit, MI) and 2002 MAC Placer Tamika Dixon (Cleveland Heights, OH) who red-shirted last season due to a ruptured appendix suffered this past January. Newcomers to this group include Jessica White (Youngstown, OH), Lyndi Springer (Celina, OH), Nicole Standback (Battle Creek, MI), Ashley Butler (Findlay, OH) and Betsy Grove (Shelby, OH).
Middle Distance
Leading this area of the program are senior Ellen Alike(Ft. Wayne, IN), and juniors Melissa Krueger(Versailles, OH) who placed first in the BGSU Open, Caroline Kipchaba (Kabarnet, Kenya) and Marquita McGowan (Detroit, MI). Newcomers Kim Settle(Toronto, Ontario) and Ashley Tukes (Detroit, MI should bring added depth to the track as well.
Distance
Senior Amber Culp (Ann Arbor, MI) coming off a third place finish in the 3000m Steeplechase at last springs conference meet and NCAA regional Qualifying mark looks to improve and lead this group to bigger finishes during the 2004 season. She is joined by returnees Leighann Kramer (Beavercreek, OH), Nicole Suitor (Freeland, MI) and Emily Jackson(Pittsburgh, PA). Newcomers expected to make their mark in their first season as Falcons are Bridget Dalic (Strongsville, OH) and Andrea Pollack (Ann Arbor, MI).
Jumps
This area of the program has many new faces among the likes of long jumpers Amanda Sefcik (Macedonia, OH) and Veronica Vance (Cincinnati, OH) join high jumper Erica Wilson(Youngstown, OH) and pole vaulter Jennifer Peck (Maumee, OH). These ladies join veterans Melja Seibert, Jen Ziegler and Jensine Pernell to add much needed depth.
Throws
Senior Kerri McClung (Portland, IN) is coming off another successful year after winning the MAC Indoors Shot Put title and third and seventh place finishes in the shot put and hammer throw events last spring. Kerri is joined by returnee Alyson Lee (Medford, NJ) and newcomers Andrean Bunko (London, Ontario), Paris Bussey (Pontiac, MI), and Carol Anderson (Maumee, OH).
