LEXINGTON, Kentucky - The Falcons traveled to Lexington, Kentucky and dropped to 0-5 in MAC play with a 5-1 loss Friday night (Oct. 15) to the Wildcats of Kentucky.
The Falcons competed well against the Wildcats through the first half, but were unable to keep the pressure on during the second half.
Jordan Koblens was awarded a goal after his long ball was deflected past the goalkeeper at the 5:49 mark, giving the Falcons an early lead. This would be Koblens third goal of the season.
The Falcons continued to dominate after the goal until Kentucky's Jamal Shteiwi ran the ball 50-yards down the field to score at the 19:47 mark.
The Falcons held onto the tie game through the first half. However, what looked to be good soon turned ugly for the Falcons.
Early into the second half a red card against Bowling Green set up a penalty kick for Kentucky at the 46:56 mark. Taking the kick was Jamal Shteiwi who was able to put it past Bowling Green goalkeeper Tyler Dollins.
The Wildcats kept the pressure on and soon earned another penalty kick at the 53:03 mark. Jamal Shteiwi earned a hat trick as he placed the ball wide left out of Dollins' reach and into the net.
At this point the Wildcats were dominating the field with another goal three minutes later by Michael Strong at the 56:43 mark, assisted by Dave Hertel.
The Wildcats had 13 shots in the second half and held Bowling Green to only three.
Kentucky's final goal came at the 68:51 mark on a rebound off the crossbar that was put in the net by Andrew Alexander.
The Wildcats of Kentucky walked away with the 5-1 win over Bowling Green.
The next match for the Falcons will be on Friday (Oct. 22) when they travel to Kalamazoo, Michigan to take on the Broncos of Western Michigan at 3 p.m.
