DePaul Holds off BGSU, 69-59

Rosemont, Illinois - Host DePaul outscored BGSU 18-10 over the final five minutes to pull away and capture a 69-59 victory over Bowling Green, Saturday at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill. It was the season opener for both teams.
BGSU dominated the first half, primarily with outstanding defense, and jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first eight minutes. DePaul began to claw back, but a layup by senior Josh Almanson gave the Falcons a 25-19 lead with 1:58 left in the first half. However following a Falcon turnover, a three-pointer at the buzzer by Marcus Heard cut the BGSU lead to 25-23 at intermission.
The Blue Demons went on an 18-4 run to start the second half and posted their biggest lead at 41-29 with 12:57 to go.
The Falcons, sparked by 12 second-half points by junior Steven Wright, gradually fought back and a tip-in by junior Germain Fitch with 5:18 left cut DePaul's advantage to 51-49.
BGSU had a chance to tie or take the lead with 4:41 left, but committed back-to-back turnovers, and DePaul took advantage by scoring the next six points. The Falcons would cut the lead to 57-53 with 3:08 left on a steal by senior Cory Eyink and a layup by senior John Reimold, but a three-pointer by Sammy Meija with 1:52 left sealed the game for DePaul.
BGSU was led by Almanson who had 17 points and seven rebounds and Wright who finished with 17. Reimold added 11 points and Eyink chipped in 10.
BGSU will host Illinois-Chicago, November 24 at 7 p.m. at Anderson Arena.
