Falcons Earn Another Sweep, Downing Wright State

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University tennis team, for the second consecutive Sunday, won every match en route to a 7-0 dual-match victory. The Falcons' latest such victory came Sunday (Feb. 1) against Wright State University at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
With the victory, the Falcons improve to 4-1 in dual-match play this season to date.
The tone was set early, as the Brown and Orange swept the three doubles matches, taking two by 8-1 scores. At the top flight, senior Lisa Maloney and junior Susie Schoenberger picked up one of those wins, while another senior/junior combination, Jessica Johnson and Cameron Benjamin, also dropped only one game in their victory.
At the second doubles level, sophomores Andrea Meister and Heidi Romer recorded an 8-5 victory over their Raider foes.
It was more of the same in singles play, as none of the Falcon competitors lost more than four total games in their straight-sets victories. Johnson did not lose a single game in her sixth-flight win, while freshman Ashley Jakupcin, competing for the first time in the 'spring' season, lost only a single game in her fifth-flight match. Jakupcin had been sidelined due to injury.
Two other Falcons, Maloney (second flight) and Romer (fourth), lost only one game apiece. BGSU's other singles winners included Schoenberger at the top flight and Benjamin at the third level.
BGSU will play a pair of matches next weekend, hosting DePaul on Friday (Feb. 6) at Shadow Valley, before heading to Cincinnati to face the Bearcats the next evening. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
