CINCINNATI, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati remained unbeaten in dual-match play, recording a 6-1 victory over the Bowling Green State University tennis team Saturday night (Feb. 7). The non-conference match was held at Queen City Racquet Club.
With the win, the Bearcats improve to 5-0 on the season, while dropping the Falcons to 4-3.
The hosts captured the doubles point with only the Falcons' second-flight team victorious. Freshman Ashley Jakupcin teamed with senior Gaby Coello for a 9-7 win over their Bearcat counterparts. UC got a pair of 8-3 wins, Lyndsey Molony and Hannah Hinton downing the team of senior Lisa Maloney and junior Susie Schoenberger at the top flight, and Jill Klauck and Samantha Liu winning at the third level over senior Jessica Johnson and junior Cameron Benjamin.
UC took the top-five singles positions, with only Jakupcin capturing a singles victory for the Brown and Orange. The Falcon freshman was never headed in a sixth-flight win over Mariana Lozano, winning in straight sets by identical 6-0 scores.
A pair of Falcons, Schoenberger and Coello, lost in three sets. Schoenberger fell to Molony at flight number one, while Coello dropped her fourth-flight match (10-7 in the third) to Julie Klauck. Maloney, Benjamin and sophomore Heidi Romer also competed in singles play for the Falcons.
BGSU returns to Northwest Ohio for a Friday (Feb. 13) match vs. the University of Illinois at Chicago. That dual is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. at Shadow Valley Tennis Club in Toledo.
