Bradenton, Fla. - Bowling Green improved its record to 7-2 overall with a pair of 4-0 victories in a doubleheader against Rhode Island on Thursday afternoon in Bradenton, Fla. The Falcons have only two more games left in sunny Florida on Friday (vs. Yale) and Saturday (vs. Eastern Kentucky).
The Falcons used stellar pitching performances by junior Tyler Saneholtz (2-hitter) and sophomore Tyler Johnson (5-hitter) to sweep the Rams in back-to-back seven-inning contests. Saneholtz improves his record to 2-0 and has not allowed a run in 16 innings pitched this season. Johnson also improves to 2-0 and has allowed just one run in 15.1 innings of work this year.
Junior Andy Hudak drove in all four runs in the first victory, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate with a double. Junior Jimmy Lipari scored two of those runs while going 2-for-3. Freshman Eric Lawson and senior David Barkholz also scored.
In the nightcap, Lipari and freshman Josh Dietz drove in a run apiece while the Rams committed three errors to help plate two more Falcon runs. Sophomore Dash Yost was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and Hudak collected another double, as did Lipari.
BGSU has won five of its six games on its Spring Break trip with games left against Yale at 3 p.m. on Friday and Eastern Kentucky at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The Falcons' home-opener is scheduled for next Tuesday, March 16, against Sienna Heights at 2 p.m. at Warren Steller Field.
