Bradenton, Fla. - Bowling Green moved to 8-2 overall with a 6-1 victory over Yale on Friday afternoon in Bradenton, Fla. Junior left-hander Keith Laughlin surrendered one run and six hits in seven innings on the mound to help lead the Falcons.
Yale (1-5) scored first, as Jake Doyle led off the top of the second with a hard single to center field. Two batters later, C.J. Orrico singled to left, followed by an Eric Rasmussen groundout to short to advance Doyle and Orrico to third and second respectively. Pedro Obregon followed with a walk to load the bases. Esper beat out a two-out grounder to short, scoring Doyle from third. Laughlin induced a pop up from Randy Leonard to escape the bases loaded jam.
In the bottom of the second, Bowling Green would score three times, with senior Spencer Schmitz delivering a one-out two-run single to give BGSU a 3-0 lead. Falcon lead-off hitter David Barkholz was the only BGSU player with multiple hits, finishing 3-for-5 with a run scored.
Greg Mentrek and Neil Schmitz eached pitched a scoreless inning in relief for the Falcons.
The Falcons end their Spring Break trip on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. vs. Eastern Kentucky.
