Bowling Green, Ohio - Sophomore Nolan Reimold singled into left field in the bottom of the 10th inning to drive home the game-winning run in a 4-3 victory over visiting Xavier in the season home-opener for Bowling Green on Tuesday afternoon.
Reimold came to the plate with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 10th frame and singled past a drawn in infield, plating junior Jeff Warnock from third base for the game-winning run and improving the Falcons to 9-3 overall on the season.
The sophomore from Greenville, Pa., finished 3-for-5 with two runs batted in for the Falcons, the game-tying and the game-winning runs. Warnock finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored while sophomore Steve Raszka drove in a pair with his first home run of the season to right field.
Freshman Eric Lawson led off the game with a double down the left-field line, but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple. That was the only Falcon hit until the fifth inning as Xavier starter T.J. Shultz pitched six strong innings, allowing just three hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
The Musketeers (6-14) staked a 3-0 lead in the top of the seventh inning with a solo home run by Brett Smith. BGSU responded by cutting into the deficit with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning thanks to Raszka's two-run shot to right field, his first career round-tripper for the Brown and Orange.
In the eighth inning, Reimold knotted the game at 3-3 with a bases loaded, infield single that scored Warnock from third base.
Five different pitchers threw for the Falcons, including senior lefthander Neil Schmitz (2-0) who picked up the victory by pitching the final three innings of the game, allowing no runs on one hit with one walk and six strikeouts.
BGSU returns to action tomorrow when it travels to Michigan State for a non-conference contest. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
