Bradenton, Fla. - Centerfielder David Barkholz singled home third baseman Tyler Wasserman, who had just earned BGSU's first hit of the game two batters earlier, with the game's lone run and Falcon pitchers Tyler Saneholtz, Burke Badenhop and Neil Schmitz combined for a four-hit shutout as the Falcons topped Boston College, 1-0, Saturday morning at Academy Field in Bradenton, Florida.
The Falcons are 3-1, while the Eagles are 3-7.
The winning rally started for the Falcons with one out in the ninth when Wasserman dribbled a single through the left side and moved up on a BC wild pitch. After Barkholz singled in the run, he stole second and third, and Eric Lawson walked. Andy Hudak flied out to right for the inning-ending out.
Saneholz started for BGSU and allowed three hits and struck out eight in six innings. Badenhop got out the two batters that he faced, and Neil Schmitz surrendered one hit in 2.1 innings of work for the win. In addition, BGSU threw out three would-be basestealers.
The Falcons will play Duquesne at 2:30 p.m., Sunday in Bradenton.
