
Falcons Fall To CMU On Senior Day

BOWLING GREEN,Ohio - Despite posting the second-best score in school history, the Bowling Green State University gymnastics team fell to Central Michigan 196.225-195.900 Sunday afternoon inside the Eppler Complex. The Falcons now sit at 5-7 overall and 3-3 in Mid-American Conference action.
Senior Melissa Popovich, who competed in her final home match as a Falcon, once again led the Falcons. The Medina, Ohio native recorded a 39.525 in the all-around, the second best mark in BGSU history. She placed first on the floor (9.925), second on beam (9.85) and bars (9.9) and third on vault (9.85). She also captured the all-around title.
Senior Pia Sjovall join Popovich in the top five on vault with a 9.8, placing fifth. Junior Breanne Metzger placed seventh with a 9.725.
The Falcons recorded a new season-best on the bars (48.925) with the help of a 9.9 by Popovich, a 9.875 by Marie-Eve Boisvert and a 9.75 by Jessica Bradley.
BGSU continued establishing new team-bests with a 48.875 on beam. Popovich placed second (9.85) followed by third place finishers Sjovall (9.825) and Metzger (9.825).
The final event of the day was the floor for the Brown & Orange. Popovich led all performers with a 9.925, with Sjovall placing fourth (9.900) and Metzger (9.875) finishing sixth.
BGSU returns to action when they travel to face West Virginia on March 13, for a 7:00 p.m. start, before heading to Central Michigan for the 2004 MAC Championships on Friday, March 19.
