CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University sophomore Lindsay Heimrich has been named the Mid-American Conference's Player of the Week. The announcement was made on Monday afternoon (April 12) by the conference office.
Heimrich earns the honor for the second time in her career, having also been named the MAC Player of the Week on March 18, 2003.
Heimrich, a native of Waterville, Ohio (Anthony Wayne HS), hit a team-high .462 as the Falcons took two out of three games vs. defending MAC West Division and MAC Tournament champion Western Michigan over the weekend. She went 6-for-13 at the plate, leading the Falcons in hits, at-bats, total bases (eight) and runs batted in (three) on the week.
In the WMU series, Heimrich also paced the Falcons in slugging percentage (.615) and on-base pct. (.462). In the field, she was perfect in 38 chances (36 putouts, 2 assists).
In Saturday's (April 10) win over the Broncos, Heimrich went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a run scored, a sacrifice bunt and a career-high three RBI. She entered Monday's (April 12) Oakland doubleheader with a five-game hitting streak, batting .450 (9-for-20) in that time. On the season, Heimrich was batting .287, ranking third on the team, prior to the OU twinbill. She leads the Falcons with a .357 batting avg. in MAC games.
On Monday, of course, Heimrich displayed her pitching skills, throwing a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Golden Grizzlies. She also had three hits in seven at-bats in the DH, scoring two runs and driving in a pair of teammates in the sweep.
Heimrich earned the P-O-W honor for the MAC's West Division. Ohio's Amber Chapman and Buffalo's Stacey Evans earned Player- and Pitcher-of-the-Week honors, respectively, in the East Division, while Central Michigan's Amber Puchalski and WMU's Jaymie Voss shared West Division pitching honors.
The Falcons are 17-20 on the season, after the wins over Oakland, and BGSU is 4-4 in MAC play heading into Wednesday's (April 14) doubleheader at Buffalo. Following the UB games, the Brown and Orange will return home for a three game weekend series vs. Ball State. Starting time for both Saturday's (April 17) doubleheader and Sunday's (April 18) single game is set for 1:00 p.m. at the BGSU Softball Field.
