BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Visiting Miami University picked up a 7-0 victory over the Bowling Green State University tennis team Friday afternoon (April 9). The Mid-American Conference dual match was held at Keefe Courts on the BGSU campus.
With the win, the RedHawks improve to 11-9 overall and 4-2 in MAC play, while the Falcons fall to 9-10 and 3-4, respectively.
The RedHawks captured a narrow decision at the top doubles flight. The team of Katrina Lomdize and Linda Jirouskova eked past the Falcon duo of senior Lisa Maloney and junior Susie Schoenberger by a 9-8 result. That completed an MU sweep of the three doubles matches, as the visitors took the first point of the match.
In singles, the RedHawks won all six matches, with three requiring a third set. Schoenberger lost a close match to Lomidze at the top flight, including a 7-5 score in the third set. Freshman Ashley Jakupcin lost in a tiebreaker after splitting two fourth-flight sets with MU's Nancy Wiegand, while junior Cameron Benjamin did the same at the sixth flight against ilze Meyer.
Other Falcon singles competitors included Maloney at the second flight, senior Gaby Coello at the third level and sophomore Heidi Romer at the fifth flight. Coello was competing in her first match since Feb. 21, having missed nine consecutive matches due to injury.
The Falcons will return to Keefe Courts for a Saturday (April 10) match vs. Marshall University, beginning at 1:00 p.m. That match will close the home portion of the regular season for the Brown and Orange.
