Toledo, Ohio - Toledo plated 11 runs in the first inning and went on to defeat Bowling Green Friday afternoon at Carter Park, 19-8. The Falcons were up 2-0 in the top of the first inning thanks to a two-run homer by Nolan Reimold, his 11th round-tripper of the season.
However, in the bottom of the first frame the Rockets pounded out seven hits and the Falcons committed three errors to help UT plate its 11 runs. Starter Keith Laughlin (3-2) surrendered seven runs (six earned) before being chased without retiring a batter. Reliever Ryan Lindquist entered the game in relief and gave up five runs (four earned) over the next 2.1 innings, including four in the first inning.
The Falcons put up four runs in the fourth inning to cut its deficit to 12-6. Three of the four runs came on a three-run homer by Eric Lawson, his fourth home run of the season.
That was as close as the Falcons would get, though, as UT scored four runs in the seventh inning and two more in the eighth inning.
BGSU scored its final two runs of the game in the top of the ninth inning with an RBI-double by Reimold, scoring Jeff Warnock, and a Jimmy Lipari sacrifice fly, scoring Kevin Longstreth.
UT's J.R. Duffey (4-6) pitched the complete game, allowing 11 hits and giving up four runs (one earned). The Rockets held a 19-11 advantage in hits. Freshman Dan Horvath pitched 3.2 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits, but struck out a career-high five batters. Dino Cowell pitched the final two innings, giving up two runs on three hits with one strikeout.
Steve Raszka finished 3-for-5 at the plate while Lawson and Reimold each had a pair of hits.
BGSU drops to 25-16 overall and 10-9 in the MAC, while UT improves to 18-30 overall and 7-12 in the MAC.
The two teams play Saturday afternoon at Carter Park with a 1 p.m. start. Junior Burke Badenhop is expected to get the start for the Falcons.
