AKRON, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University softball team will have to wait a little longer to try and continue their Mid-American Conference Tournament run. Due to inclement weather in the Akron area, the starting time for the Falcons' Saturday (May 15) game vs. Western Michigan University has been moved back an hour and a half, to 12:30 p.m.
The Falcons, the sixth seed for the six-team, double-elimination tournament, are 2-1 in the tourney and 31-28 on the season. Western, the number-three seed, is also 2-1 in tournament play, and 32-25 overall this year. BGSU and WMU met in the tournament's opening game on Thursday (May 13), with the Broncos taking a 3-0 decision.
WMU returned to Firestone Stadium that night to post a 1-0 win over Kent State University, before falling to Miami University, 2-0, in Friday's winner's bracket game.
The Falcons, after that loss to the Broncos, rebounded to knock each of the top-two seeds out of the tournament Friday. BGSU downed top-seeded Central Michigan University, 3-0, before beating second-seeded KSU by a 6-0 score.
The BGSU-WMU winner will face fourth-seeded Miami later Saturday afternoon, weather permitting. The survivor of the game between the Falcons and Broncos would need to defeat the RedHawks twice to win the tournament.
