BGSU Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at Rutherford Intercollegiate

State College, Pa. - The Bowling Green men's golf team finished fifth out of 15 teams at the Rutherford Intercollegiate, hosted by Penn State University on Friday and Saturday at the PSU Blue Course. BGSU finished with a three-round, team score of 876 (287-298-291), two shots back of Western Kentucky for fourth place and six shots back of James Madison for third place.
Towson University captured the event with a score of 858 while the host Nittany Lions finished second with a score of 859.
In the first round, senior Adam Balls shot the second-lowest score in BGSU history by carding a 65, two shots off the school record of 63 held by Brett Fulford in 1992. Balls went on to shoot 76 and 75 in his final two rounds and finish tied for 15th overall with a three-round score of 216.
Freshman Dan McIntyre was just one shot back of Balls and finished tied for 17th overall with a personal-best score of 217 (71-73-73). Junior Craig Pickerel (T-22nd, 220) was also a top-25 finisher for the Falcons and shot a career-best 67 in the final round on Saturday. Freshman Brad Dearsman (T-51st, 226) and sophomore Heath Ziglar (T-53rd, 227) also placed for the Falcons.
BGSU concludes its 2004 season next weekend at the Mid-American Conference Championships, May 6-8, hosted at the Medallion Club in Westerville, Ohio. The 72-hole tournament will begin on Thursday with 18 holes, followed by 36 holes on Friday and 18 holes on Saturday.
