
Falcons Split Doubleheader at IPFW on Sunday

Fort Wayne, Ind. - Bowling Green split a baseball doubleheader at IPFW on Sunday afternoon in Fort Wayne, Ind., winning game one, 3-2, and dropping the nightcap by the same score, 3-2.
In game one, the Falcons got strong pitching from junior Keith Laughlin (5.0 IPP, three hits, eight stikeouts, two walks, two runs) and junior Matt Hundley (2.0 IPP, two hits, one strikeout, one walk, no runs). Laughlin (3-1) earned his third win of the year and Hundley picked up his third save of the year.
Offensively, BGSU plated a run in the second, fifth, and sixth innings. IPFW struck first with a run in the first inning before sophomore Nolan Reimold led off the second inning with his 10th homer of the year, knotting the game at 1-1.
The Mastodons went ahead in the third inning with another run, 2-1, before the Falcons tied the game in the fifth inning (Eric Lawson sacrifice fly) and went ahead in the sixth inning (Jeff Warnock sacrifice fly).
In game two, IPFW plated three runs off of reliever Neil Schmitz (3-2) in the bottom of the seventh inning to come from behind and defeat the Falcons, 3-2. IPFW used three singles and one Falcon error for the comeback victory.
BGSU went ahead 1-0 in the fourth inning after Reimold led off with a double and later scored on a Steve Raszka groundout. The Falcons built its lead to 2-0 in the fifth inning with another run thanks to an RBI-single by Lawson, scoring Kevin Longstreth.
Burke Badenhop started the game for BGSU, lasting 5.0 innings and scattering seven hits with no runs on two walks and two strikeouts. Alan Brech pitched a scoreless sixth inning with no runs, no hits and two strikeouts.
BGSU is now 23-13 overall and will next play this weekend (May 7-9) when it hosts MAC East-leading Miami at Warren Steller Field. Friday's game is scheduled for 3 p.m. while Saturday and Sunday are slated for 1 p.m. starts.
