Bowling Green, Ohio - Designated hitter Josh Stewart lined a two-out single into right field in the bottom of the 11th inning to score Eric Lawson from third base and give Bowling Green a 4-3 victory over league-leading Miami.
Lawson led off the bottom of the 11th with a single to left field and was advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Jeff Warnock. Kevin Longstreth then grounded out to the second baseman, moving Lawson to third base. After Nolan Reimold was intentionally walked for the second time in the game, Stewart delivered the game-winning RBI with his second hit of the game.
The Falcons got up early on the Redhawks with a pair of the runs in the first inning. Andy Hudak doubled to left field, scoring Warnock all the way from first base, and then Reimold ripped a double to right field, scoring Hudak for a 2-0 BGSU lead.
Miami cut into that lead with a run in the fourth inning and went ahead 3-2 in the top of the seventh inning with a couple of runs. BGSU answered that rally, though, with its third run of the game in the bottom of the seventh to knot the game at 3-3. Hudak singled home Mike Barnard from second base for the game-tying run.
Falcon starter Keith Laughlin pitched well in 6.2 innings, scattering nine hits with just two walks and nine strikeouts. The decision, though, went to junior right-hander Matt Hundley (4-0). He pitched the final 4.1 innings and allowed just one hit, no runs, three walks and four strikeouts for his fourth win of the year. Chad Reineke (2-3) picked up the loss for Miami.
BGSU pounded out 14 hits to Miami's 10 with five different Falcons getting two base hits.
BGSU improves to 24-13 overall and 9-7 in the Mid-American Conference while Miami drops to 27-15 overall and 9-5 in the league.
The two teams meet again on Saturday, May 8, at Warren Steller Field at 1 p.m.
