BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University Department of Athletics has announced the 2004 men's and women's cross country schedules. The Falcons of head coach Cami Wells are slated to compete in six races prior to the Mid-American Conference Championship on Oct. 30.
Half of that six-race schedule will take place at home, as the Falcons will have three home meets in the fall of 2004. BGSU will host arch-rival Toledo in a dual meet on Friday, Sept. 3, to open the season. The women's race is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start and the men's (5K) race will begin at 5:45 that evening.
The following weekend, the Falcon men's and women's squads will host the Mel Brodt Invitational. That meet, which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11, includes a men's race at 9:00 a.m. and the women's race at 10:00 a.m. The 2004 meet will mark the 18th annual Mel Brodt Invite.
The Falcons' other home action will be on Saturday, Oct. 16, as the Falcon Invitational makes its debut. The men's race will commence at 9:45 a.m., with the women's race scheduled for a 10:30 a.m. start.
Both home invitationals will take place on Falcon football home game days, with the Mel Brodt Invitational kicking off the Varsity BG/Hall of Fame Day events on Sept. 11. The Falcon Invitational is part of Homecoming Weekend.
Other schedule highlights include a trip to Stanford on Saturday, Sept. 25. Stanford is the defending NCAA champion in both men's and women's cross country.
BGSU's first meet away from home will be the Toledo Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 18. The Falcons also will compete in the All-Ohio Championship in Delaware, Ohio, on Friday, Oct. 8. The Falcon Invitational is the last meet prior to the MAC Championships. The league meet will be hosted by the University of Toledo.
The Great Lakes Regional races are scheduled for Nov. 13 in Ypsilanti, Mich., with the NCAA Championships slated for Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.
