The Men's preseason poll is out and the Falcons are picked to finish 6th in the MAC. Three-time Mid-American Conference Champion Kentucky was picked to win the 2004 title. The 2003 MAC Player of the Year Jamal Shteiwi will lead Kentucky. Kentucky also consists of 2004 MAC Newcomer of the Year Riley O'Neill. In goal for the Wildcats will be All-MAC first-team selection Andy Gruenebaum. Returning 16 letterwinners, including six starters from last year's team will be Akron, picked to finish second. The Zips will be led by All-MAC selections Cameron Knowles, Alex Odwell and Hans Jorgen Haugland. The Zips are ranked 25th in the College Soccer News' preseason poll. Picked to finish third are the defending MAC Champion Western Michigan. The Broncos return 15 letterwinners and seven starters from the last seasons record-setting team. 2003 Coach of the Year Chris Karwoski leads the Broncos. The Broncos will be losing their All-MAC forward Jeff Hughes, but will return with senior Giuliano Teixeira and junior Bill McClellan. WMU was selected as the most improved Division I Men's soccer team in 2003. Marshall, led by head coach Bob gray, is picked to finish fourth. The Herd will be returning Karim Boukhemis and Michael McDonald. Northern Illinois, led by All-MAC second team selection Bernhard Hagevik were picked to finish fifth. The will also welcome back junior forward Tony Deldin after leading the Huskies in points in 2003. Bowling Green, picked to finish sixth, will be led by first year head coach Fred Thompson. Nine letterwinners will return including seniors Deryck Freudeman, P.J. Behan, and Nnamdi Ihemelu. Junior Oamri Aldridge will bring back experience to the team after starting all 22 games for the Falcons in 2003. Aldridge scored four goals, including a game-winner. Picked to finish seventh is Buffalo. Returning will be sophomore Andrae Clarke and senior Cheick Diarra. Clarke played in all 16 games and led Buffalo in points.
