BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University softball team's fall season begins Sunday (Sept. 12), with the team's annual alumnae game. Starting time is set for noon at the BGSU Softball Field.
Sunday's game marks the lone home contest of the Falcons' fall schedule. The defending Mid-American Conference Tournament champions will play in a pair of tournaments, including the Toledo Fall Showcase (Sept. 18-19 in Maumee) and the Ohio Charity Classic (Oct. 2-3 in Columbus).
Leigh Ross-Shaw, entering her seventh season as head coach, welcomes back 14 letterwinners from last season's team. The 2004 Falcons went 34-30 overall and earned the sixth seed for the six-team MAC Tournament. At that tourney, the Brown and Orange rebounded from an opening-game loss to take five consecutive contests and the tourney title.
The Falcons' spring schedule is tentatively set to begin on the weekend of Feb. 25-27, when BG is slated to play in The Frost Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn. Following four tournaments to open the 2005 schedule, the Falcons begin the home portion of the spring slate with a March 25 doubleheader vs. Toledo. The complete 2005 schedule will be finalized at a later date.
