Marshall Tops BGSU, 5-2

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green hosted their MAC opener against the Thundering Herd of Marshall today at 2 p.m. Bowling Green came out strong but was unable to keep the pressure as Marshall walked away with the 5-2 victory.
This was Bowling Green's first MAC game and Marshall's second. The Herd fell to Kentucky, 2-1, in their MAC opener.
Coming out strong for the Herd was Karim Boukhemis, scoring for Marshall just five minutes into play. He was assisted by teammate Jeremy Ashe on the cross.
The Falcons kept their momentum and soon answered back with two goals within three minutes of each other. Abiola Sandy had his first goal of the season at the 24:52 mark. Following him was Omari aldridge, scoring at the 26:07 mark.
Bowling Green kept their lead for most of the fist half until Firas Al-Samarraie of the Herd tied the game with his goal off a penalty kick at the 41:36 mark.
Jeff Lenix broke the tie and gave Marshall the lead at the 43:01 mark.
The second half was scoreless for the Falcons as Marshall increased their lead with a goal by John Daniele and another by Jeff Lenix, sealing their win at 5-2.
In goal for the Falcons was Brandon Decker with a season high 10 saves.
The next match for the Falcons will be on Wednesday Sept. 29 as they travel to Rochester, Michigan to take on the Golden Grizzlies of Oakland at 4 p.m.
