No. 4 Florida Downs Falcons In Three To Open The 2004 Season

EVANSTON, Illinois - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team, after being chased from the Miami Invitation due to Hurricane Frances, was finally able to get their 2004 season started with a Saturday night match versus #4 Florida in the NU Labor Day Invite falling in three sets (23-30, 26-30 and 21-30) inside Welsh-Ryan Arena. Freshman Stephanie Swiger led the way for the Brown & Orange with eight kills on a mere 12 attacks She also led the team in hitting percentage at .583 and chipped in with a team-high five digs and three block-assists. Senior captain Melissa Mohr and freshman Maggie Karges each chipped in with six kills. Karges also added two service aces and three digs. Returners Taylor Twite and Emily Manser each added five kills, with Twite posting two block-assists and Manser chipping in with four digs. BGSU as a team had 30 kills, with senior setter Amber Mareski assisting on 29 of those. She also had five digs. The Falcons will conclude the NU Labor Day Invite bright and early with a 10:00 a.m. start with Northwestern, followed by a 5:00 p.m. match with the Mastodons of IPFW on Sunday, before returning home on September 8, to face Cleveland State, a match that will be broadcast on BCSN.
